Tyre sensor not detected issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

A while back I hit a curb with one of my tyres which essentially almost instantly deflated the whole thing. When I had it replaced, I kept getting the tyre sensor not detected error. I took it to National Autotyre who replaced the sensor, but within less than 12hrs, the error came back.

This was a month ago and I have just lived with the error. I took it in to them today to get it fixed (they had a confusion and will now see it tomorrow). I have since had a slow puncture on that tyre where it deflates to around 20 - I know I need to replace the tyre soon. But I explained to them that if I store the pressure at 20, it almost instantly goes back to saying check tyre pressure, and if I then inflate to 32, it says sensor not detected. So no matter how much air is in the tyre, it alternates between the two errors. When there was no slow puncture, the error was there permanently. They are effectively not believing me, saying that the issue is the slow puncture, but I explained the error was there before. They said they can replace the sensor as it will be under warranty but they are convinced it is the slow puncture.

My assumption is that the sensor itself is fine and that it is something else - caused by the original bump - that is causing this issue? Or is it likely to be the sensor itself? Is there anything I can suggest that they check tomorrow when they have the car in so this issue is finally fixed?

Thanks!

they keep telling you its the changing tyre pressure causing it - now you agree you believe the sensor is OK

what else would you like the fault to be voodoo ?

they have top start somewhere - and a slow puncture is not a good idea at best and dangerous further down the line..

the initial issue was likely the sensor was damaged either when you did the tyre or when the animals replaced it - that sensor was replaced - then you got a puncture

I get the slow puncture isn't good, but the error came back within hours of the replacement of the sensor and stayed permanently, so surely then it is not the puncture causing the problem?

Perhaps it was the wrong sensor for your system.  There is more than one type.

Also, have you seen the slow puncture?  I'm wondering if it's leaking around the valve on the sensor instead.
