Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi

My 2008 Focus has the standard Brigestone Turanza tyres on (205/55/R16) on.

The fronts are now at about 4-5mm tread and looking at changing them as weather now going into winter.

What are the better tyres to get? Looking at the Goodyear Eagle F1 with the 'V' tread

I found the Bridgestone's fairly noisey and poor wet handling (handling could just be me getting used to turbo - 1.6tdci lol)

will do thanks. Had the Eagles on my Suzuki Swift sport and it stuck to road like glue - low profile tyres, but unsure how will handle on Focus. Found these for £74 each at Hi-Q

will keep u all posted

Hi

The fronts are now at about 4-5mm tread and looking at changing them as weather now going into winter.

!Removed! hell, there's only 8mm on a tyre when it's new !!!

What are the better tyres to get?

Well that will always be a matter of personal opinion, so you will never get a definitive answer on that one.

Are you looking to buy winter tyres, of a summer tyre which will handle better than the average, in wet and snow conditions? But remember there are always trade off's if you opt for tyres gripper than the norm.

Here's a link to a thread I did back on the 13th Jan of this year, on the subject of tyres. Four bits of rubber between you and whatever

Anyway consider the tyre depths I stated in the opening post, and bear in mind I swopped the fronts to the back on the 15th March. Fronts then had 5.5 mm and the Rears 3.0mm. And now 9 months and 4,600 miles later than when I made that post, Fronts have 4.0mm and Rears a tad over 2.0mm [ bear in mind figures mentioned being the smallest tread depth recorded across the full width of the tyre. Therefore the average across the width of the tyre will be higher as a rule]

Anyway I'm planning on replacing the Rear tyres say mid December, as from now to then I will not be belting down motorways or the like. But I'm still sticking to my original choice as stated in the thread linked to. Never had em on before, and whilst you can read and research all you want, you will only ever know if there any good by trying them out.

the legal minumum is 1.6mm, 4-5mm is LOOOADS left, why on earth would u change them now???

:D
