80 amp purple wire

Featured Replies

Hi.Does anyone know what the purple wire is on a 80amp fuse near the batteries  under drivers seat. It's blown and just thought I'd ask what it's for.

It's a ford transit mk8  2014

Purple is 100A.  Covers the engine fuse box.

So if that was blown would it stop the engine from starting

It certainly would. It is fuse number 'F08'

I'd be very concerned as to why a 100A fuse had blown. Has work been done on the van recently, or has it been jump started ?

Not necessarily.  This is for the smaller engine fuse box.  I don't know exactly which circuits are in there.

The thick red cable on the right hand side covers the main engine fuse box as well as the starter motor.  That one is 470A!

This one is called 'engine junction box' if you have any wiring diagrams for a Mk8 Transit?

Excellent!

I'm on my phone right now but will check the circuits on laptop tomorrow.

See above for screen shot of the fuse info.

Fuse F08 100A supplies:   BJB - Fuse 30 (60A) - Fuse 31 (20A) - Fuse 32 (20A)

That's certainly clearer than the handbook version!

You've got the auxillary box there though, that's the red wire.  Going by that list, the purple wire should be radiator fans and wiper motors from the main engine fusebox.

(It's definitely too late to be working this out! )

Thanks for that one.  It's very different to the one I was looking at in the handbook last night.  Is the BJB separate from the engine fusebox after all?

Fan motors and wiper motors at least made sense for a high load fuse burnout.  I wouldn't expect any of those 3 things to blow a 100A fuse. 🤔

The HC-BJB is on the underside of the BJB as far as I know. Located in the engine bay.

Hmm ok.  That engine fusebox  looks different to the one I was using from the handbook.

I think we need the OP to post a picture of the one on their car to confirm.

Hi

Yes the van broke down .

Just had a new engine as bottom crank broke and f the engine .  It wouldn't start after new engine  so we had to good look at everything and spotted that fuse.  Van running now .

I doubt we will get to find out now.

I note that the Ford handbook doesn't say if it is the 2.0 or 2.2 engine, and no mention of FWD or RWD all of which makes a difference to the electrics of the van.

Yes we know.

Which model is the Ford Owners Handbook for ?

Is it this       ford transit mk8  2014 ?

I think you are missing the issue.

The online Ford Transit Owners Handbook only shows one fuse box with one list of fuses. The 2014 mk8 Transit was available with two different engines and as either FWD or RWD. The Handbook doesn't seem to say which model it is for, just that it is for the 2014 year.

Hi

Picture of mine is on the post.

It's a RWD 2.2 2014 mk 8 lwb.

Problem is sorted now
