Focus Zetec S Sport 1.0L 2014 Door seals/door closure

Featured Replies

Hi guys and girls

Is there a way to tighten the drivers side door seal?

I mean the door closes but not tightly and when at speed I can hear the wind rush.

The more annoying thing about it though is when the weather is not so great (most of the time in the UK) I suffer from severe damp, the front window is soaking wet on the inside!

I can see that the door is not tighly closed by the upper outside door rubber not touching the upper frame of the car when closed.

Also when seated I can get my fingers between the top of the door and the frame to some point, which I cannot do on the passenger side

Hope you can shed some light on a possible fix?

Thanks all...

You could try adjusting the door striker mounted to the B-pillar.

You would need to move it inboard so it gives more contact pressure to the door seal before the door latch engages the striker.

Would suggest you mark where it’s positioned then loosen the bolts and tap it inboard a small amount at a time then retighten. It may need tapping with a plastic mallet to get it to move. Also consider the flush-ness of the front door to the rear door - easily done with a straight edge like a bank card or similar.

If the front door starts getting inboard of the rear door you might have an issue with the door being misshaped which needs a bit more drastic adjustment to get good seal contact.

Thanks for the reply.

It wasn't obvious to me when I bought the car, maybe it should have been but I think it's been in an accident and the door replaced possibly as when you look at both doors from the outside, the horizontal silver trim drops slightly on the drivers door and the gap changes size on the vertical.

I'll get myself a cheap rubber mallet and mess about.

Is is quite simple to mess with a door, they are dam heavy.

That does sound like it’s not the original door set from how it left the factory then.

You can also take the striker up and down to try and improve alignment of the door finishers front to rear - this might help if you have tapered vertical gap but don’t be surprised if you get one alignment right only to find another gets a bit worse. Taking the striker up would close up lower gap to rear door but open up the upper if that makes sense.

The weight of the door isn’t a problem if you’re adjusting the latch striker, becomes more of an issue if you tried adjusting the actual door hinges which I’d suggest you don’t try as that’s where things start getting a lot more complicated. Better taking it to a body shop if that’s needed imho
