2012 2LD Short Journeys

Featured Replies

It's nearly time to say goodbye to the 05 Focus that has served me well for at least 10 years! 😢

An estate would be very handy and I've spotted what looks like it could be a good replacement..... apart from the fact that it's in Inverurie and it's a diesel!

Being in Inverurie isn't too much of a problem but as I only do very short journeys I'm aware that this isn't the best for diesels.

Is the 2L any better or worse than any other diesels I've had in the past or does a good 15 minute 'Mexican tuneup' every couple of weeks blow out any soot etc build up?

The 2.0 TDCI in these uses a vaporiser to regen the DPF, so it's a bit better than post-injection regen, not requiring quite as much engine heat.

However, 15 mins a fortnight won't be enough to keep the DPF clear.  You can't choose when it regens either.

I'm not sure DPFs are going to be suitable where you live in all honesty.  Do you notice the trucks doing regens?

Regens are the bane of my life at times!

One of the trucks has to be turned off and back on again to get the PTO on and this interrupts the regen and creates problems as you can imagine!

Think you've answered my question for me, shame as it looks ok.

Thanks for the advice 👍

Also be careful of newer Petrol cars with GPF's, they soot up quickly with only short journeys.

Sounds like you need an EV !

"but as I only do very short journeys"

You'll only need a short extension cable 🤣🤣

Yeah, daughters got a 23 plate Fiesta which constantly has a 'Full exhaust ' or something similar, warning on the dash the whole time that gets cleared when it goes in for a service!  Her journeys are even less than mine, I can get to my work in 5 minutes, her's will be about 3!
