Where did the 8mm go? 1.6 2010 TDCI + PCV issue

Featured Replies

Lost my last 8mm bit when swapping it onto the power ratchet to screw the cantilevering pipe that comes off the turbo back. Seems that It's been dropped around that area or near enough to the alternator, couldn't seem to find it at all. Took the tray off and it wasn't there either.

Wasn't in the aux belt cowl either. Where the ***** hell will it be? My only idea is somehow wedged behind the alternator perhaps.

Never swapped my PCV, and due to a bit of white smelly smoke on cold starts, as well as a little rough idle, I swapped out the whole rocker cover as it was cheaper than using the pcv and a new cover gasket separately. I swapped the gasket out as there were little specks of oil on the bonnet liner, as well as oil buildup all around the oil fill, but that was due to the gasket that looked a bit funky.

I've a few little questions to ask..
There was loads of oil in the in and out of the intercooler, pcv pipes etc. I guess that also reinforces the faulty valve. Whats the cheapest easy method to clean these out ? I'm gonna have to pop off the throttle body too by the looks of it. Would carb cleaner be ok? I do also have a big tub of surfex water based degreaser to do the intercooler because acetone will 1, be dangerous and 2, may weaken the plastic.

To confirm, is the torque spec for the rocker cover is 9nm?

Thanks in advance!

White spirit, ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Take the intercooler off the car. Put about 500ml in, swirl it around, empty, then put in another 500ml and enough water with some washing up liquid to fill it, and let it sit for 30 minutes. Drain it, rinse with water till theres no bubbles left, and then use a hair dryer for 10 minutes on either port. Leave it another hour, port end facing the floor, to make sure its dry before putting it back in the car.

Socket might be on the lip where the oil pan meats the block, trapped behind the alternator.

And yes, 9nm.
