MK5 Mondeo, Engine cutting out at high speeds

Featured Replies

Good morning, I hope everyone is well.

I have a MK5 Ford Mondeo, Auto, AWD and I've been having an issue with it over the past few months.

I do a lot of long journeys with work (200 mile+). When driving at around 60-70mph, every once in a while the engine will just cut-out and the "see manual" and spanner symbol will pop up; at this point I will need to pull over onto the hard shoulder before the car comes to a stop. I can then switch the car off and on again and it will drive absolutely fine for another 100 miles or so.

On top of that, I've had a "transmission function limited" warning pop-up as well every now and then. But after replacing the battery recently, that seems to have stopped for some reason.

My local garage first said it could be the fuel filter, so I've had that replaced and it still happens. Then they told me It may be because I need my gearbox servicing, so I've had that done and its still happening. I've had a new timing belt and battery. It's been regularly serviced and MOT's have been sound. However, this problem is still occurring.

I'm just here for a little guidance on what to do next.

Cheers

H

The obvious question is have you had the Diagnostic Trouble Codes read using a Ford specific code reader eg. FORScan ?

If the 'Spanner' light has been on, and you have had warning messages then there will be Ford specific DTC's logged.
