Driver Side Window Moving Intermittently in Both Directions

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m still struggling with an issue on my driver-side window in my 2012 Ford Fiesta Zetec S (Mk7, 2-door) and hoping someone might have some insight.

The window does not go up or down properly—it only moves intermittently in both directions. When I press the switch, the window moves slightly, then stops, and I have to keep pressing the switch repeatedly to get it to move again. It never moves in one smooth motion, whether going up or down. I’ve attached a video showing the issue.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Replaced the window switch – The issue remains exactly the same with the replacement switch.

Tried the reset procedure (holding the switch down for 10 seconds, then up for 10 seconds) – Works fine for the passenger window, but does not fix the driver-side window.

Taken it to a garage – They ruled out the motor and regulator, saying that if they were faulty, the window would be making an obvious sound or struggling, which isn’t happening.

At this point, I’m not sure what else could be causing this. Could it be a wiring issue, a faulty control module, or something else electrical?

Has anyone else had this problem before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The one obvious thing you seemed to have not tried, is to lubricate the 2 x guide channels for the glass. Use a small squirt of 3 in one oil (or similar) and see if it'll lubricate itself out of trouble...
