Focus 1.6 TDCI 2012 T1DB

Featured Replies

Hi all, got a few issues with a Focus I purchased a few months ago.

I'll preface by saying I have Forscan and the 2 month licence, so I have attempted to pull codes relating to my issues. I have no EML, and the car runs fine (for the most part but I'll get to that.)

Firstly stop/start has never worked. I have multiple codes relating to clutch position. I assume someone fitted a non stop start master cylinder and I recently started getting a sticking / clicking clutch pedal so have bought an original part from Ford to fit. Is this part being incorrect possible to mess with other sensors / circuits because I have a glow plug sensor code and a starter circuit code.

My main issue is intermittent boost dependant on restarting the engine. As it is right now it doesnt matter if the engine is hot or cold, if I restart the engine its a coin flip as to if I will have any boost, if I dont have boost then restarting the engine, most of the time once, but sometimes multiple restarts, I regain boost and its completely fine until I turn the engine off.

My final issue is another strange one and I'm honestly not sure if its just me never having owned a diesel before and not being used to the engine sounds.  When I am accelarating when in gear I have a tapping sound, that sounds like tappets, but when sat stationary and revving its not there. Makes it hard to attempt to track down.

I do have a rattly gearbox, when idle, that changes pitch when pressing the clutch. The cars not far off 100k so I'm pretty certain its going to need a new one but the bites not high so I'll get to that when I can get the complete clutch kit. Does a DMF rattle when worn and under load? Could that be where the tappety sound comes from?

Thanks in advanced to anyone who has any ideas

Diesel fuel injectors. At 100K miles they will be well worn.

Thats what I had originally thought, but it doesnt do it free revving just in gear and accelerating. Is that just normal diesel things? Is there a way to test them? Possibly in Forscan or otherwise?
