Ford paint fade

Featured Replies

How much would you expect paint colour to change on a 15 yo fiesta compared to colour when new? I’ve re-sprayed my wing mirrors using Ford squeeze green (code 8GGC-WWA). I was expecting a slight difference but it’s a totally different green! Is paint matching normally this rubbish or has the supplier put the wrong label on and sent me the wrong paint altogether? Surely my car hasn’t faded this much.

Ah there's your problem. That paint is only for the door mirrors 🤣

Are you sure you have identified the colour of the car correctly ? Ford do have a habit of using the paint code numbers for more than one colour paint.

If you tell me the registration number or the VIN number I can check the colour on the factory build sheet.

PS: Did you buy that paint online from a company in Northern Ireland ? If the answer is yes then all I can say is I've had problems myself with the wrong paint in the can from them.

The reg is KP10 EFR. @unofix

Ordered it on-line from XtremeAuto on eBay. Would be good to confirm the paint code before I start complaining!

The paint they’ve sent looks more like Ford’s Ultimate Green.

Can confirm your car is Squeeze Green (metallic) Ford paint code 59

The company you bought from on eBay is the same one that I had issues with. Good Luck trying to convince the Eejit that the paint in the can is the wrong colour paint 🙁

That's just totally the wrong colour, spray them black and save hassle

That's a terrible finish as well.  I'd just dump them and buy a pair of good used ones in the right colour.  The alternative would be a professional prep, colour match and spray but that'll cost much more than a pair of used ones.

It’s a poor finish but not as bad as it could have been. The nozzle stopped working and I had to resort to a screw driver to get the paint out. Lots of fun and games. Spray paint is never that good. This was a nightmare 😮

My plan is to get a refund and buy a pair of black gloss covers for under £15. Not going to bother with second hand green. I’ve noticed the lacquer wears away on lots of these green cars. New black will look smarter.

Pre-painted covers off ebay saves all the hassle and is better than any home done spray job but about £25 each, no messing just ditch the old ones and replace with gleaming high gloss new ones.

I marked one of my covers and after the purchase of wet/dry paper & the correct green & lacquer, messing about getting the covers good again, 3 months on the lacquer was dulling, so repolished them up, 3 months or so they gone dull again, then a year on I noticed cracking/glazing all over the mirrors, not going through that crap again so got two new covers, that was 5 years ago and still very high gloss.

On a previous car, I bought 'carbon fiber' covers which looked great, don't know if they're made for your car though...

Carbon covers look fab on the right type of car, just like they suited your old car, but fitting them on a four door Fiesta would make folk chuckle thinking what next a gloss black roof and aftermarket bigger alloys, personally thinking myself only the green covers should be used but it's up to the owner I suppose....You can get the carbon covers though, son has some on his ST but look bob on, on that type of car 😎
