Focus Mk2 jerks and stutters

Featured Replies

Hello, sorry for my bad English (Google translator)

I have a problem with my Focus. It stutters and jerks quite a lot as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator. What could be the reason?

I have already had the engine mounts changed, replaced the spark plugs and ignition cables and filled up with different petrol. None of this has helped so far. Could it be the other two bearings? As far as I know, it has 3 in total. The garage employee said it could be the drive shafts, but I've heard that this would manifest itself differently. The marten has also been in there several times, could it be that it has nibbled on something? An air hose or something similar?

I would be very happy to receive an answer.

Best regards

more info would help - what engine, what gearbox, what mileage etc. ?

then a bit more info on the fault would hep - your description could be a multitude of things

if the engine is out of the equation does it slow and brake normally
is the engine running well when accelerating
are there any fault code coming out the OBDII socket ?

Sorry this is a Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 and the current mileage is ~107000km.

What else is relevant?

I have installed original Ford Motorcraft spark plugs and NGK ignition cables and ignition coil.

The jerking is noticeable as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator while driving. Then the car jerks and stutters, sometimes more, sometimes less. It brakes and accelerates normally. I haven't had the fault memory read out yet, but I can ask the garage if they can do it.

I hope the information helps.

a crank position sensor failing due to age and heat can cause stumbling and stalling as you back off - in an auto its a nuisance - on a manual I guess its more irritating (they fail on most other cars from 10 years, 60 to 100k miles - but never hear of it on these cars)

its tends to get worse with heat / hard driving - and often makes it hard to restart the engine when hot - it will and deteriorate over 6 months till the car wont start at all

My mk2 1.6l did this. Turned out to be a split breather pipe and a worn out core plug. £80 to have that fixed at local garage solved it.
