Timing Belt Query on 2020 Focus Active Eco Blue 1.5 Diesel

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, new user here.

I'm in the process of purchasing the above vehicle, currently own a 2016 Focus 1.0 litre Eco Boost with wet belt 52,000 MILES.

Can anyone tell me with any certainty if the Focus Active Eco Blue 1.5 Diesel has a wet belt, dry belt or chain?

I've done loads of different searches and have came across answers for all three scenario's.

I requested the salesman to provide me with proof it isn't a wet belt before we go ahead, he says he's pretty sure it isn't but will get proof from the service manager before my next visit, waiting on them preparing for drive away.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Cliff,

Dry cambelt but a small chain linking the cams. We have seen several reports of this chain failing, however.

Thank you.

Is it the same catastrophe as the wet belt failure?

Probably not a complete engine write off but still pretty serious it seems. There's a recent thread here which gives more details. Despite the thread title it was the chain that failed:
