2.0l diesel slow to warm up

Featured Replies

Apologies - I posted this in the Guides forum before realising my error.

I recently purchased a 6-year-old Ford Focus Vignale 2.0l Eco Blue diesel.

After a 15 mile test drive, I noticed that the temperature gauge had barely moved from above 60 degrees.

I queried this with the salesman who in turn passed my observation on to the service department, querying the length of time the car appeared to reach working temperature

According to the salesman, the guy in the service department said “Everybody remarks on that”.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Or is this sales BS?

Completely normal for this engine. Mine does exactly the same. If you drive about 25 miles and make the engine work hard like driving up hills then you will eventually get the temperature up to about 90oC.

After you park up for 10 minutes the engine will be almost cold again.

I have a 2.0 diesel took it for a MOT when it was about -4 out only a a 15 min journey away halfway through the test the tester came up to me and asked if he could rev it up for a while as the engine temp was too low to test the emissions 😂 not sure if he managed to get it up to temp but it flew that part of the test
