Occasional misfire

Featured Replies

New user here.

Ive got a 2020 ST-Line that’s started an occasional misfire under any kind of load. Feathering the throttle or being gentle accelerating and its picks up speed but giving it any kind of load and it coughs severely before pulling.

The mystifying thing is it’s not every time. Today for instance I had an hour run with it coughing all the time, stopped for 5 minutes and it still did it. Stopped for 15 minutes and suddenly it was fine after that.

It’s also not every day but it’s becoming more common.

I haven’t looked at it yet but obviously I’m going to do plugs then coils. But would these cause that pattern of fault?

Im just concerned it’s going to be ignition or fuel based which is another thing altogether.

Hi Richard, welcome.

A little more basic information is needed here to assist anyone trying to help.

2020 was something of a changeover year when MHEV (mild hybrid)  was introduced on some versions - what power is your car and is it MHEV?

Its the mild hybrid.

To round this off, it wasn’t ignition related, it was the knock sensor.

20 quid and 10 minutes was a lot cheaper and easier than I was fearing.
