1l ecoboost 140ps broken crankshaft

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I go this 2016 Ford festa zetec a 140ps and come to find after 3rd cylinder the crank has been snapped. Any idea if I can get away with a crankshaft and rod bearings or maybe a piston although from the bottom the piston looked good.

I would expect the bore to be damaged and possibly a valve or two bent if there was a loose piston in one cylinder.  You will need to strip the engine down to see exactly what damage has been done.  If it was mine, I think I'd feel safer going for a full replacement engine as a rebuild is a huge amount of time and money if it turns out there was some missed damage once it's all back together again.

I see, does it matter what kid of 1l ecoboost engine I go for or is the only the tune that changes in the ECU for the horse power?

thanks

There is debate around that and I can't say for certain.  I believe at least some of the 140ps versions had a different headgasket to change the compression ratio.

The turbo was also different on some, though I assume you'll be able to swap your current turbo onto the replacement engine.

Certainly is - such as this thread: https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/98588-10t-ecoboost-engine-diferrences-between-100125140hp/

The thicker head gasket seems to be a common factor in almost everything I've seen.

However, the Ford Tech Specs for the Mk 8 Fiesta, for example, (which you can download as a pdf from the Ford Media site) shows the same (10.0:1) compression ratio for the 100/125/140! (I've seen errors in these specs before though.)

From the before/after graphs on most remappers websites they seem to end up with the same or very similar figures whichever version they start with, so presumably any difference must be fairly insignificant anyway.

I have been looking around and I can’t seem to find a head gasket for the 140 specifically. not sure how to go on about with this this matter should I buy a 100ps ecoboost? and maybe change the turbo and hopefully make the same horsepower and the 140 that I have blown up

Part No 1857022 is mentioned in the thread linked earlier?

If this is correct, looks a bit pricey, though!

I'm sure , by the time we got to Mk8 125 and 140 PS were identical, 100 had unique turbo

MK7.5 100 and 125 are identical, except turbo, 125 and 140 are not identical but have same turbo

As mentioned, change the engine, I would recommend a 140
