Mk2 heated windscreen fuse has no pins

Featured Replies

Hi I have a mk2 focus lx 55 reg.

I bought a 40a fuse only to realise when trying to put it in that there are no pins in the fuse box where it needs to go. Are the pins missing and fixable? Or is the car just not meant to have one?

Edit: realised I don't have heated screen. Can't work out how to delete post

Thanks

Hi I have a mk2 focus lx 55 reg. I'm pretty sure it has heated front windscreen as the black dot bits are on the windscreen.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad new. The 2005 LX never had a heated front windscreen, but it does have heated mirrors LOL

Next time you're inside a car with a heated front windscreen, have a very close look at the glass where you'll see a fine patterned wire woven all the way through it.

Ah well there we are

Had to change fuse for the cigarette lighter and had a poke around the fuse box afterwards not having a clue

Not sure mine does. Will have to double check as my mirrors always caked in rain

Thank you. Will definitely go observe this in the morning. I'm still learning about this car.

Had a load of repairs done recently (cambelt, serpentine belt, brake discs and pads, ignition leads) and only just started looking at what the car actually does beyond being in need of repair

Fantastic idea. Also while looking today I think I found my issue with the heated mirrors. There was no fuse for it in the fuse box, so I popped one in there.

I've had duxback window treatment put on my front windscreen anyhow which seems to do a decent job.

Perhaps another fuse blew and the previous owner used that one to replace it as they didn't have a spare.

I think so. From the repairs I've had done since I bought the car in June last year, it seems the PO got rid of the car because repairs wasn't something on their list of priorities.

In all fairness to PO, in 7 months I've done new wiper blades, breather pipe for engine, core plug, spark plugs, ignition leads, coil springs, o/s/r control arm, battery, front discs and pads, cambelt, serpentine belt, water pump, duxback window treatment, headlamp alignment, wheel alignment, and a service.

Those repairs arent for everyone haha.

I've booked car in for early MOT just to get a sign off on the repairs I've justified to my wife as for safety. Need to put tape over a sharp edge sticking out of bumper from PO then get a new bumper at some point.

Also I've noticed something weird in fuse box. There's no fuse in place for EPB (parking break?). The LX didn't come as standard with EPB but there are most definitely pins in place for a 30a fuse to go there. Worth putting a fuse in and seeing if anything happens?

I've never seen a Mk2 Focus with EPB.  I reckon it was only for the C-Max but they used the same fusebox.

Interesting setup on these too, one central motor that pulls two cables, unlike modern EPB with a motor on the back of each caliper.

Bit of a "halfway house" sort of system. Looks like an EPB inside, but underneath it's just a motor tugging the old fashioned handbrake cables instead of the driver pulling the lever. Sooner just have the lever myself, but then I'm old fashioned too.😀

Similar system in some of the last GM Vauxhalls.
