19 plate MK4 focus rear shock absorber

Featured Replies

Hi this is my first time posing here but I'll try and keep it simple.

I have a 19 plate ford focus estate 1.5 ecoblue.

On of my rear shock absorbers has been found to be leaking a small amount of oil and I'm looking at replacing it myself.

This is where my issue is , the OEM part(2291807) is out of stock at most places and where available seems to be overly expensive. However there is a different part no(2279424) on the 20 plate but is a rod style

I was wondering if anyone has run into this issue and if they are interchangeable with the use of  the top mounting bracket of the newer model.

2291807 is coming up as a spring for me.  Maybe 1 number out?

Anyway, the difference between those is likely to be the two different rear suspension setups.  Being an estate yours should be independent rear suspension.  Whereas the 20 plate is probably for the twist-beam on hatchbacks.  I doubt they'd be interchangeable.

The Independent Multi Link Rear Suspension for the Estate cars is even different to the few Hatchback cars that have Multi Link, so the Dampers may be different.

If the problem is that an MOT Tester gave an advisory for Light Misting then just clean it off and keep an eye on it, it is unlikely to Mist again and is not a fault. If it was an actual Leak then that is different.
