09 fiesta missfire

Featured Replies

Afternoon all, hope your doing well.

Im experiencing a cylinder 1 missfire on my 09 fiesta style+, the engine idles pretty rough, shakes alot and has very poor acceleration

So far I have changed the coil pack and ht leads but no joy, I've also noticed a slight smell of fuel too.

Im not very mechanically minded but I can work around the basics things hence me changing the a few things myself

Could anybody offer some more advice on what would be the next thing to check?

Thanks all

Spark plugs?

Hi, sorry I forgot to mention that I had replaced the plugs too when doing the coil pack

Thought that might have been the case.  Was hoping for an easy oversight there!

Have you got a fault code confirming just one cylinder is misfiring?  And always the same cylinder?  If so, ideally you should do a compression test next.  You may be able to borrow a compression tester from a local garage.

If the compression is fine, next remove the injector rail and check whether the seal on the end of the injector is split or squashed compared to the others.  Injectors themselves don't often fail on these but if you do want to tray a new injector & rail set they can be bought cheaply used on ebay.

Also check for any vacuum leaks around the manifold, particularly the oil breather (PCV) underneath.  Though I would usually expect those to affect more than one cylinder.

Hi, thanks for the reply, yes so my code reader gave me the code p0301 cylinder 1 misfire, after I had replaced everything I erased the code, drove for roughly an hour or so and the warning light came on again with the same code. My next step was to do a test on the injectors using the screwdriver technique and listening for clicking. I do have access to a compression tester so I'll also give that a try
