2017 RS Focus with AWD malfunction.

Featured Replies

I've been chasing a AWD fault on my daughter and her partners RS Focus for a good few months. Finally I think I've found the problem yesterday while disconnecting the wiring harness from the rear differential axle. Once the connector was unplugged oil started to leak out, not a very good sign.

We've been looking at used axel and diff assemblies today which are typically around £900 with out the AWD module fitted.

The questions that I need to find answers to is:

  1. If we use the cars original AWD module does the actual rear diff. need to be programmed ?
  2. If the rear diff does need programmed to the AWD module, is this a Ford dealer only job? and will they programme it if we fit a used axel and diff ?

Does the RS use similar hardware to the Kuga for the rear diff? May get more info through the Kuga forums if that’s the case.

Failing that maybe FocusRS forums or an RS specialist such as Collins Performance etc may be able to advise?

Unfortunately not.

It seems like it has electrically operated clutch system in the diff, not like the haldex system the Kuga uses.

Think I'll have a look over on the RS forums and see if there is anyone able to advise.

If it was only ever used on Focus RS then it should be plug and play.

But yes, get advice from the RS owners
