Auto leveling lights.

Featured Replies

Ok guys, can anyone tell me if there is a specific procedure for setting up the leveling sensors on my Focus. Since i changed the rear subframe my auto leveling lights appear not to be working. I must also say that the sensor at the rear im using is the one that came with the subframe, not the oem one that was on my car. My oem one is in pretty poor condition with corrosion however it was working, but i decided to use the one that came with the subframe from spain. My question is if i replace them with a new one is there some sort of procedure required to set them up. Or is there a test i can do to see if they are indeed working before i buy a new one. ie resistance or voltage test and how to do it. Any info would be much appreciated. Ta, Del

Anyone ??

There is a procedure for resetting the level adaptions in Forscan on some models.  But if you don't have that then I don't know what else to suggest.  I would assume the arm just works a variable resistor like a fuel float arm, but have never tested one with a multimeter.

Did a little bit of digging just now and there is a procedure in FORScan for reseting the system if any components have been replaced.  The sensor on the subframe is not from my car so im assuming the system will see it as an error and will need to be reset. I dont think there is any way of testing the sensor according to what ive been able to find out, although i stand to be corrected. I would have thought the resistance would change in the sensor to indicate a change of load on the car, but im unable to find out what that value shoud be. I will just have to plug in forscan and see what it says.

I still have the oem sensor and ive done a resistance test on it and it definately changes as you work the sensor up and down slowly. There should also be a 5v refernce voltage on one of the pins (its a 3 pin plug ) Havent had a chance to scan the car to see if any DTCs show up but either way i think it will be an easy fix......i hope so lol.

So, went for a longish run today since it was such a nice sunny day. Mainly to bed in the new rear brakes, calipers/discs/pads all replaced. Just a wee bimble aboot the countryside and did about 60 miles. Ive been researching this light problem i thought i had and decided to go and try them to see if they worked as they are supposed to and.........lo and behold they are as advertised...doing their side to side up/down thing so it seems whatever was ailing them has resolved itself, for now anyway.
