Replacing the aux belt tensioner on a '02 1.8 TDDI?

Featured Replies

After I replaced the waterpump, the serpentine belt has been making small clicking noises. I've narrowed it down to the tensioner, as it seems like the belt is slacking a bit. It has to be a brand new belt every time I take it off, otherwise it starts squeaking.

Idler pulley is brand new, so that isn't it. All the other pulleys seem to spin just fine, too.

Does anyone have a video or a guide on how to remove it? Can't find any information online. I'm thinking maybe the steering pump has to go first, but don't want to do anything before being sure.

You're right, the PAS pump has to be removed for access.  I think you can just unbolt it and then slide the tensioner mount out, without having to disconnect the PAS pipes.
