Focus 2.0 ecoblue problems

Featured Replies

Having a few problems with my 2019 2.0 ecoblue Focus, I have the code P2002, with EML.

I have done a search on here and tried a few things suggested, static regen and changed dpf pressure sensor, no change light comes back on.

The car seems to struggle with starting from cold and producing a lot of grey/white smoke, fine when warmed up.

What I find strange is when ForScan is scanning the modules, the DCU module comes up as no DTC function available, is this right, or am I looking at a wiring problem.

Any insights greatly appreciated, before I have to relent and take it to a garage.

Isn't the DCU the Adblue controller and pump?

It's probably outside/underneath the car somewhere and got wet and died

Check that first

Yes it's the adblue system and the car has been using more adblue than normal, have cleaned up the injector, lots of crystallisation. 20250227_140110.thumb.jpg.919ce16c96439d9a8ca97dc8daafa95f.jpg

I think this is just a limitation of Forscan.  Have vague memories of seeing the same message before on a car without Adblue issues.  Probably worth an ask on the Forscan forum in case it is a red herring.

Adblue shouldn't create starting issues.  A dribbly injector could be wetting the exhaust overnight to create steam in the morning, but I can't see how it would alter the engine starting.  Would think that's probably glowplugs although odd there's no fault code for them.  (There was on my 2008 Focus when they failed at 6 years old).  Other option would be fuel injectors which aren't great on the 2.0 EcoBlue.

Thanks Tom, did think glow plugs or injectors, checked flow rate of injectors and all giving similar readings, so either ok or all bad.

Think I need to look at the glow plugs as I believe cold cylinders would cause unburnt diesel (grey smoke) from the exhaust.

Another issue is I've had black soot come out of the exhaust back box drain hole, may have been after static regen.20250219_100233.thumb.jpg.877a84bb5fe8a07556eda1117dff19fd.jpg

Thought it was time I closed out this thread.

I took my car to a Ford dealer, with a differant issue. I was having serious electrical problems, with malfunctions of Drive modes, BLIS, Cruise control control and the car would jump out of drive breifly when driving, which made the car dangerous to drive, Reverse would also jump out every time I used it.

The dealers managed to fixed this charging 3 hours labour, broken earth wire on gearbox.

The dealers also confirmed that the DPF was shot and would fix under warrenty (Recall coming later in year) only if it failed a MOT.

Also the engine cranking time was becoming longer and the dealers suggested a compression test (another 3 hours), If engine is bad they will fit new (apr £10k) or I take the car back in bits.

I declined the compression test and have now sold the car (at a big loss).

Am now driving an old Audi A1 tfsi while I earn enough to cover my losses. I will not be buying Ford or a diesel again.
