What is this bit called and how do I stop it creaking?

Featured Replies

This thing creaks like crazy, but only when the temp is around 9°c. Really weird. It stops if I put downward pressure on it. I've tried putting foam padding in any gaps around it but it does nothing so I'm wondering if the sound is coming from inside it. Is it easy enough to take off and have a look around? Thanks all in advance.

It doesn't have an official name as it's part of the dashboard on these.  I'd probably call it a cluster shade or visor.

Not sure what you can do about the noise though.  The plastics will just expand and contract, soften and stiffen, in heat and cold.  You could try something slippery like dash polish on the areas that touch.

Take the clock pod out and go for a drive, see if the creaking stops, if it still creaks get a passenger to investigate where the creaking is coming from, if it has stopped creaking it's the clock pod surround, its rubbing against each other,  not hard to remove the clocks, this is lefthand drive but basically the same set up.

It could just be that the cluster is loose

Thanks for that @Ian Lanc. Looks tons easier to remove than I thought. Will give it a go this evening and report back.

Does it have a tracker fitted..behind the clocks is where we fitted on most of vehicles

Only a thought
