2012 mk3 1.6T, slight 'clatter' when accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 2012 mk3 focus which I adore. the only issue I have is that under heavy acceleration i hear a slight clatter, almost like a diesel engine sound, in the higher rev range. I've never had a petrol turbocharged engine before, but I used to own a mk1.5 1.8 TDCi focus which was as tough as old boots, until the injectors failed. Also, shouldn't turbocharged engines come with boost gauges? Has anyone fitted one to a mk3 focus?

Only the ST had a boost gauge.

1.0 Ecoboosts could do with a Boom! gauge though

Is it knocking?

What fuel are you using?

If E10 switch back to E5

nah, its not a knocking, more like a diesel tappet sound. I'm just really paranoid that its something serious as iv not had the car long. I'm gonna give it a good service over the weekend; oil, spark plugs, filters and see if that helps.

When I filled it last, I put some v-power in, I'm not sure what the previous owner used though. I'm definitely not going to make a habbit of putting v-power in though, I'm going to carry on using E5 like I did with my previous car.
