[Solved] Odometer display flickering really fast MK2

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a mk2 focus 2005. The digital odometer display on dashboard started flickering really fast through the different displays- miles done, miles to empty, outside temperature etc. It won't stop.

Other dashboard displays work - temp gauge, speedometer both normal.

Anyone got any ideas?

Possibly a fault with the left side stalk that has the rocker switch to switch through the dash displays?

Or may be related to the common issue with cluster connector solder cracking on the circuit board. Try banging the dash to see if it stops either completely or temporarily? Other members may be able to confirm if what you’re seeing is a symptom of the usual cluster issue.

Or could be related to water ingress/connector corrosion at the passenger side fuse box though I’m not sure if cluster circuit from the stalk would go through there.

Thanks. Tried banging dashboard nothing happened. Car passed MOT literally 3 hours before it happened while I was driving. It still does it for a few mins when I've turned the ignition off. The ford logo stays lit for a little bit and the odometer keeps flickering in that time.

I'll inspect the fuse boxes tomorrow. Thanks I appreciate that pointer.

SOLVED! Checked the fuse for instrument panel and it wasn't blown (hence dashboard being able to display something) but it looked a little old so I put a new fuse in anyway.... Hey Presto! Odometer display working fine.

UPDATE: Problem came back, but after fixing a leaking cam cover gasket the cluster is working beautifully. For anyone looking into this issue in the future, consider your gasket.
