oil in spark plug

Featured Replies

hi guys

my car suddenly started to hesitate when i press the gas. it does it on 2nd gear and 4th gear but only sometimes. so i changed the spark plugs and oil and found one sparkplug that had oil in the middle of the spark plug. but since changing the sparkplugs, its been driving fine but the oil leak is quite concerning.

had a read on the internet and many people are saying the rocker cover seal will need replacing.

watched one video and it does seem straignt forward.

what do you guys think?

Engine?

What do you mean?

Oil in the middle of the spark plug hole in the cylinder head?

Or oil in the middle of the spark plug tip?

If on the tip, it may look like oil but it's probably fuel soaked carbon from the miss fire

Pull it now that that cylinder is working fine and see if it's gone

the oil is on the middle of the spark plug meaning its not on the tip and not on the thread, its where i have circled on the picture above.

hope this helps.

like i siad, since i have changed the sparkplugs and new oil, it seems to be driving fine now, i have been driving for 2 days without any roughness.

Having had the same with the 2006 Focus I had, I would replace the cover seal.

Certainly sounds like the rocker cover seal has gone, leaking oil into your spark plug chambers. The rubber seal compresses soo much that it becomes flush with the rocker cover sill, allowing oil to escape. Seems a pretty simple fix, but you do need to be careful when removing the injectors.

many thanks guys 🙂

i have ordered the gasket, watched a few videos but when i tried to find out in which order to undo and do the bolts up, i have read 2 ways, criss cross and from inside out. also when using torque wrench to do them up, ive heard 2 numbers, 7 and 10 nm

coudl anyone tell me which ones you chose please?

just took that one spark plug out to check and that had abit of oil on it even though the oil has been full since i changed it so im bit confused about that.

anyone got any ideas as to why it is still full? if it is leaking then it should have gone down at least abit by now.

Doesn't take a lot of oil to make a mess. Change the gasket then wash the area down with brake cleaner and keep an eye on it. I wouldn't be worrying about it.

Thank you, will do. Just need to know in which order to undo and do the bolts and how much nm.

hi guys

the videos ive been wathcing is very similar to my engine but if you look at the picture in blue circle, that thing is in the way of the bolt in black circle.

anyone know how i can take that thing off as i would need to get to the bolt using a torque wrench?

That's the VCT solenoid.  It's held in by one single bolt right above it.

oh when i had a look at it, it seemed like when i take the bolt off, it would still be in place.

cheers tom, i will give it a go in morning.

It will still be in place, just have to pull it towards you once the bolt is out.

Nice one Froggy8 👍 Its so nice when a relatively cheap fix actually works.
