Focus Mk4 Oil Change

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

So, I’m starting to think I’ve bought a lemon here. I have the Mk4 1.5 Ecoblue Active Estate Auto.

I have just had the oil changed, not even 2 hours ago, and I went and checked on the Ford Pass app that the indicators have all been reset and I’ve noticed that is expecting the oil to last just 2,900 miles.

In the past, I have changed the oil on my cars between 8 and 10k, but less than 3k for a service interval is ludicrous.

I have had the car since August last year, it had the oil and filter changed when I picked it up and I’ve just had it done again.

My commute to work is short, I grant that, but most weekends I’m out with the family doing fairly decent journeys and if we are doing a shorter travel as a family we use the wife’s petrol Puma. I also at least twice a month do a motorway trip for work, usually down south to various water treatment plants.

But also, even with the longer journeys, I’m getting the DPF orange warning up on a fairly regular basis.

I have only ever driven diesels, with Fords making up the majority of my history. Fiestas, Focus’, and a Kuga and I have never known a car need this much maintenance.

I can’t exactly change my car again as I don’t have several thousand pounds sitting around to allow me to part ex this one in and get something else.

With the miles I do for work I will be changing the oil 3 times a year at this rate.

Is there anyone else here who has had similar problems with the car and engine?

It's only a guesstimate, it's not an actual fact. The car can not predict the future, it can only guess at when the next oil change might be due. The algorithm used to try and work out the expected oil change, bases all of it's guess work on previous information, such as number and type of journeys made.

That number of 2900 miles will most probably change in the next few hundred miles and it may well go up, as well as down depending on how the vehicle is used.

PS: if your car looks like the one in the picture, then yes you have bought a lemon 🤣

It'll be branded BlueHDi in that one. 🤭
