Starter motor

Featured Replies

Hi, I’ve replaced my starter motor but it doesn’t crank. Battery fine. I do though have a cable/connector hanging- not sure where it goes. AA disconnected it to get us home.

any ideas- starter has been fitted correctly.

thanks in advance

Thick or thin wire, if definitely from starter, should be obvious connection on the motor, why did AA disconnect, what was the fault and has starter been replaced as a result of their diagnosis (more info needed)?

Thanks for messaging. The starter was faulty, had to be replaced. AA disconnected it as it was returning power back to the battery (burning the terminal). It’s a thin wire with a connector on the end- inside the connector it’s a round pin. Can’t see anywhere it could go on the starter. It’s about 6” long.

Thanks

I have a picture of the wire and connector but can’t upload it in here !!

Pictures can usually be uploaded once you have posted a couple of times? (unless the picture is too big and needing to be reduced resolution)

I must be missing the point, unless starter gear was locked to flywheel and spinning, it can't send power back to the battery (I'm willing to be convinced otherwise)

There must be a very thick connection to supply the high starting current and the thin connection to trigger the solenoid which switches on the power and drags the gear into mesh.
It may well be difficult to see and I don't know the exact layout.

So you have a new (and presumably working) starter which isn't receiving a signal to operate that seems to be the problem which can have multiple causes both at starter and in the circuits that supply it.

Thanks for your replies- so, the top picture on the left shows the small wire section with a connector on the end- where does this go to? The connection to the starter has been checked and in the correct places. Hope the picture helps- Thank you

Watch the video from 2:50 to 3:15 to see how the harness is connected.

Absolute star- I found the connection pin located under the harness. Couldn’t see it from above. I have 1 very happy daughter. Thanks a million.

Also, thanks to everyone who messaged.
