Power steering leak

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have a 06 mk2 ford focus that's leaking power steering fluid from the union nut. Saw a couple of videos on youtube and read a little on forums of people using aftermarket/3rd party power steering pipe off ebay. There was some comments that the bracket was too long or the pipe doesnt bend quite right.

Has anyone have any experience in this?? Anyone had a third party pipe go fitted right, if so can you provide a link to the part??

Thank you

I asked the same question recently but have had no replies so far.

What engine does your Mk2 have? The 1.6 petrol has a mechanical pump. All other Mk2 variants have electric pumps.

Depends what type of connection it is, if its a flare like brake pipes then cleaning up and checking may help (providing there's no split)

If it's a threaded connection the correct torque will need to be applied and perhaps (bodge alert!) PTFE tape applied.

If there's a sealing washer, it may need to be replaced.
If any doubt about any e-Bay part then ask the supplier for confirmation of the exact model it fits and perhaps even send them photos of the bit you want?
Unless I'm totally wrong in my imaginings as that's what I'd be doing?

The belt driven pump on the 1.6 petrol engine has a union nut for the output pipe with a single use push-fit connection.

It sounds like this is what is leaking on OP's car. Once the hose has been pushed into this connector, it cannot be removed without carefully cutting the connector off the pipe. Many consider replacing the entire hose to be the easier option.

Yes it's a 1.6, so the pipe will need to be replace entirely with a new pushed connector nut, will need to verify the part number which I believe is 1743278. There are several generic brands. Too few reviews. Just wanted to ask if anyone has had good experience with these cheaper generic brands.
