2014 Focus Wet Belt Change Cam Question.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Can someone please help or advise. I'm halfway through changing the wet belt on my Focus Ecoboost 1.0l engine. All covers are off, all CAM's are locked in TDC. When i removed the timing belt, the LHS top cam drive pully "jumped" about 10 degrees and having a feel at the pulley itself, it feels spring loaded and will move about 2 or 3 teeth on the belt. should this be locked to the cam.?

Is there anywhere I can find data on this please?

I hope somebody can advise as I have had the "death rattle" due to a deteriorating "Wet Belt" blocking  the oil pump lift strainer..!

Best regards,

Alex.

The cam pulleys do move.  That's how the variable camshaft timing works.  They're filled with high pressure oil to advance the camshaft while still maintaining the same belt distance between cam & crank.

Thanks for the reply Tom. Does that mean I need to put it back in the non "jumped" position when I put the new belt on .?

No.  Tbh it shouldn't have been that far out to start with.  Is there the same amount of slack on both pulleys?  If not, one of them is broken.
