Is this Standard???

Featured Replies

I've recently purchase a 2012 mk3 1.6t Zetec S Focus. When I purchased the car I noticed that the air filter housing had a open section rather than an enclosed air box. Is this a standard thing with my model of car or an aftermarket thing?

Pic is not of my car....

No that's not standard.  It's from the RS engine.

Would you recommend that I take it back to standard or would this mod improve things? 😬

That's your choice really.  It's not likely to make any difference to performance on this engine.  It should produce a better induction noise.

As it's not standard it should also be declared as a modification to your insurance provider.

Not clear if you've got the whole  box or just the lid. Both are still available, the full box is around £140, so a shame to chuck it away. https://pumaspeed.co.uk/product-Ford-Focus-MK3-RS-Air-Box_16970.jsp

Without other mods, it's mainly promoted as a cosmetic/nicer sound thing. Technically I guess it would count as a mod, though it is a Ford part, and Pumaspeed call it an "OEM upgrade"😀

It's certainly been a very common mod on here, mentioned in loads of threads over the years.

Thanks Eric, I think I'll keep it on just so that I don't have to spend money on replacing it for a standard one. It does look good tbf, I just don't want any extra crap/heat being sucked in 😁

Hi.

If you have any issues with insurance at all for this modification then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.
