Hi everyone,

Was doing an oil change on my mk4 and this small part dropped out when I removed the bottom engine tray cover underneath the sump. 
 

can anyone identify what it is please.

    It's what's left of an expanded pop-rivet, specially used in plastic or soft materials like thin aluminium sheet. The head of the pop-rivet is missing, possibly just corroded off or the head may have been deliberately drilled off in order to remove the rivet.
