Help with fault codes

Featured Replies

Hi all, looking to hopefully get some advice for my sister who is having problems with her 2013 Focus 1.6 TDCI. I’ve attached some fault codes, basically the car won’t start. AA did manage to start it using I think quick start spray though. One garage has diagnosed DPF and quoted £1400 to fix with no guarantee it will work. So just wondering if there is anything else she should be looking at/trying first. Thank you

Here I go with my suggestions that you are free to ignore... If fuel pressure is too low, it won't start (except on Easy Start) - has that been checked (demanded rail pressure versus actual)?
I'm boring (cos I always say this) but change fuel filter, check for air leaks (bubbles in fuel line)

Glow plug system needs checking either by measuring current (total or individual amount easiest with clamp meter) or resistance with multimeter but normally wouldn't stop engine start?

DPF is a different issue and unless VERY blocked won't stop engine from starting.

It is almost always a victim of another fault although I don't understand why ASH is mentioned as this builds up at perhaps 150k (depends on conditions/model etc) Soot, however builds up and the regeneration turns it to ash.
Does this vehicle have a vaporiser plug (5th injector - common issue)?

For that, I'd check DPF differential pressure at idle and 3000 Rev/min.
I'm always very disappointed/suspicious when an expensive specious solution is proposed with little evidence (unless it is justified with irrefutable testing and data - otherwise it's just guessing - at YOUR cost!)

End of ideas/rant!

Ignore the DPF potential issue for just now, that is not likely to be stopping the car from starting.

The faulty glow plug circuit will make it harder to start when it's very cold but normally the engine will start if the battery is in good condition.

So the real issue as to why it won't start is the low fuel pressure. Has the diesel fuel filter been changed recently ?
