Potential alternator issues? Mk2 1.6l Petrol

Featured Replies

Hi all

Got some issues when starting the car. It will start after a few tries, but until then when I turn the key in ignition it just makes a juddering sound then I get a red battery light and an amber oil pressure light on dashboard.

I'm thinking maybe the alternator? Can anyone shed any light?

Battery, cambelt and serpentine belt have been changed recently. All warning lights go off normally when the car starts properly.

It's a mk2 1.6l petrol automatic.

Thanks.

That sounds more like a starter motor issue.

Battery / Alternator / Starter motor testing devices can be bought very cheaply.

Something like this would help to locate the problem.

I'll have a look at that tool thanks. And starter motor seems easier to replace, so hopefully it's just that.
