Multiple coolant leaks / questions!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've had a slow coolant leak coming from one of the turbo banjo bolts for a while. I tried replacing the copper washers a few month back but it still drips a bit. The coolant level has been dropping from the max to low lines about every 2 weeks.

I wasn't too worried about this and planned on leaving it for a few more weeks when I do the timing belt / water pump.

However, I was under the car today checking something else and noticed two new leaks. The auxiliary water pump thing on the driver side firewall (I think it's to do with the heater?) and the radiator (looks like the rad itself, not the hoses).

- I'm not sure if it's the pump that leaking or one of the hoses attached to it. It's in a difficult place to see / reach. I was wondering if there are any know issues with these things / is it serviceable?

- Is it worth trying something like Liqui Moly Stop Leak before having to buy a new radiator?

- It seems a bit odd finding two new leaks in such a short time, is there anything else I should be checking?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I removed the cowl so I could get a better look at the auxiliary water pump.VideoCapture_20250327-140616.thumb.jpg.c5f5713a39e54cba1a67b63d072bcca9.jpg

It looks to me like the pump leaking (not the hoses), possibly damaged plastic casing or internal gasket /seal. I could have a go at fixing it, but if I'm going to go to all the trouble of removing it I think it would be wise to have a spare to hand just in case.

I googled the part number (BV61-8564-AB / 1757572), only available on eBay with the cheapest from Lithuania for £300! However it looks like the more readily available pump for the diesel mk3 Focus (AV61-8564-AB / 1742703 / PIERBURG 7.10101.10.0), only with an extra bracket.

I just want to check if anyone knows if it's compatible, as the info on car parts websites is inconsistent. Any thoughts?
