tyre pressure sensors battery life

Hi, I have a 2016 Ford Focus with original steel wheels with tpms that have been in use from 2016 to the 2021 when I changed them with an alloy wheels. The steel ones were stored in a warm garage. Based on your experience do you think that the tpms are still alive?

Maybe. The lifespan is generally expected to be about 7 years. They could be totally dead, or still alive - no definitive answer until you put them back on the car...

Well, I just bumped into a thread where people have changed their tpms at about 10+ years with many miles on them. Mine were used for a 4 1/2 years and 30k miles so the chance to be still fully functional is good considering also they were in a sleep mode for the last 4 years.

Regarding to Ford documentation the life expectancy for the original TPMS sensors is approximately 7-Years. However there are also examples of original TPMS sensors that lasted less than 7-Years while others are over 10-Years old are are still going strong.

It is a misconception that unused sensors last longer than sensors that are on a vehicle. When not in use these sensors still wake-up periodically and try to connect to the vehicle they were programmed to. When no connection can be established the sensor goes back to sleep until the next attempt to connect.

Thanks a lot. I will give them a try ...

I've changed sensors that lasted 3 months.

Well, these seems to be still alive! Just mounted the old rims and after the reset I drove several miles - everything seems to be fine. No warning light, so I consider they are still working just fine.
