Turbocharger underboost condition

Featured Replies

Hi all. This has happened twice now basically car loses some power. Local garage tested it and got P0299:00:6C

looking online it seems a common issue and quite a few have had success with it being the vacuum pump valve. Mechanic said it could be numerous things but recommended going to ford for more precise diagnostics

figured I’d try the valve first as they’re inexpensive.
I have a 2018 focus 1.0 ecoboost- would this be the correct part compatibility wise?

Also check your oil level - my understanding (but I could be wrong) is that the way they are lubricated from the engine oil, if the oil is even slightly lower than it should then the turbo charger can seize-up.

Just to update on this we have had it happen a couple more times but it seems like it only happens when in 6th gear and under 70mph. So if go into 6th a bit early or if going along at 75-80 and break like yesterday on the motorway hit the breaks down to about 60 then it happened once put foot on accelerator again

drove about 250 miles home last night and didn’t happen once when leaving it in 5th at 70

bit weird and maybe coincidence but it’s happened maybe 5 times in total all when in 6th gear below 70

I had a similar fault pop up and it turned out the vacuum hose going to the turbo actuator had a tiny split. Caused the diesel engine turbocharger not to build proper boost. Replaced the hose, cleared the code, and it’s been fine since. Might be worth checking all the small hoses for cracks before replacing pricey parts.
