Focus Mk2.5 door lock repair

Featured Replies

On my Focus Mk2.5 a connecting rod between the latch and the hole in the reinforcement has fallen out from the hole in the reinforcement. I can lock and unlock using the remote key, but when I insert the key in the lock there's no locking/unlocking action.

I tried to wiggle the connecting rod on the lock side to slide into the reinforcement but no luck.

What to do next, should I start removing the door trim and try from that side or if there's any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I've just had to remove the lock unit from my 2010 (mk2.5) and it wasn't a straight forward attempt.

I couldn't find any videos relating to the strip-down of the door. So from memory apologies if I miss anything.

The inner card has to come off, there's 2 bolts under the handle cover (8mm)

The inner card should pop off with a bit of encouragement or a good lever at the holding points.

Before removing the electrics the window need to be lowered, there's 2 foam "covers" over 2 slots in the metal trim behind the covers, the window need to be lowered until the 2 bolts holding the glass can be seen. (Power off or remove battery terminal) The electric connections for windows (and mirror adjust if on the drivers side) on the card can be removed and the card put to one side.

The 2 bolts can be loosened and the glass removed by twisting and pulling up and out the window port. If your window is very clean here it might be an idea to mark the glass before removing. (mine weren't clean so had the 2 silhouettes on the glass)

Remove the outer handle by pulling off the black cover and loosening the hex screw in the side of the door panel, doesn't need to come out all the way just enough to release the lock or rear section of the handle. section should pull out when loose. door handle can then be removed. the screw holding the inner mechanism in place will need removed also.

I released the inner door handle from the metal by undoing the hex screw and sliding the handle out.

The 3 screws holding the lock in place need removed on the side of the door.

The 10 bolts (10mm iirc) holding the metal trim to door need removed.

There's 3 plastic grippers holding the lock mechanism to the metal trim push through the centres and catch the inner "spreaders".

It was then a matter of wiggling the metal trim until i got access to the lock which in my case was a rusty part on the cable for the door handle.

Refitting was basically a reverse of the above making sure to align the glass with the marks

Hopefully this helps or maybe someone else has a better procedure
