No wireless / new module > Ford can't install software

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I purchased my Ford Focus (2023, hybrid auto) at the start of February. Within less than an hour of purchasing it, I identified several issues, of which I notified the dealership: no wireless functions work. Thus, things like wireless Android auto, software updates, creating a hotspot, etc. all did not work.

A few days later I contacted my own local dealership (I live hundreds of miles away) and my car was in for a few attempts at repairing this software (under warranty), all of which failed. The (very kind and helpful) technician said that Ford technical wanted to replace the module. He didn't think the module was the issue, but he was happy to try that first and then see what next, saying maybe the software would have to be remotely installed by the team in Norway.

The part took over a month to arrive from Cologne and it arrived this week. It was fitted today. I got a call saying it was not fixed and they will need to contact technical to see what else to do. I picked up my car. Much to my dismay, the car was pretty much non-functioning (and I am shocked I was not told about this).

The screen is effectively non-functioning. I have no reverse camera, no eco mode, no parking assist. Climate control is a tiny button and you can't change any of the functions - ...I can't turn off the heated seats or change the temperature. I can't change or control a single car setting (the car menu is literally blank). None of the buttons under the screen work and any buttons that existed on the screen before are gone. It's a barely functioning car, with key safety features now missing.

I phoned and spoked to the dealership again who said that Ford is aware of the software issue and there was a memo out about this but he didn't know if the fix would take 5 minutes, a day, or a few days. I was told there is a chance they could fix it remotely while I have the car, but when I queried that, I was told that most likely, it will have to be done/fixed in the garage. I also essentially asked, can I get my old module back, but today I was told it was faulty - even though it certainly worked more than this one and I was told that the technician suspected it to be a software issue.

I said it is not really acceptable to have a non-functioning car like this so they will try to get Ford to approve a courtesy car on Monday, as they have none themselves.

Has anyone experienced anything remotely like this before? What happens if it can't be fixed? How long did yours take to fix?

I am just so frustrated and at a loss as to what to do next or how to really approach it.

Thank you for any thoughts and help.

Not fit for purpose, reject it !

I'd certainly be rejecting the car. There is no way I'd put up with a car in that state and since this has been a problem from the moment you originally collected the car, rejecting it should be straight forward.

I'm Glasgow/Lanarkshire.

I bought this car from a garage 5hrs away at the start of February. Is it not too late to return? I've put on nearly 4k miles on it. I also sold them my old car so I would have no car.

Android Also also seems to be messed up but I don't know how since I figured it would be from my phone. It nearly works perfectly but it doesn't seem to quite know where I am as if the GPS is messed up. Is that the software too?

I bought mine from Peter vardy in July and I can still reject it

It's not too late, but they can deduct some money from the refund for use of the car over 4000 miles, which is fair tbh.

Do we think this issue is unfixable?

I am away for Easter for two weeks soon. If I can just leave my car with them and they fix it over these two weeks, amazing.

Funnily enough, for the first time, the car has appeared in my ford pass app, so the actual wireless issue is at least partly fixed. But it has the wrong location (matches the odd GPS issue I saw in Android auto). The car is going to be great fun this week with heated seats and 22.5 degrees when it is warm outside...

I haven't read the whole first post so don't know how fixable it is.  Ultimately everything on a car can be replaced, it's just time and costs that decide whether it's worth it.

Heated seats are fused separately, you can just take the fuse out for those at least.

It would help if you updated your profile, it's confusing looking seeing Titanium X 2015 but we are talking about a 2023 hybrid.

Replacement of all modules related to the Sync/Audio system should in theory fix the problems.
