Lost Communication Steering Wheel Sensor

Featured Replies

I have an error for rear left wheel speed sensor, I understand that. Theres dtc also re steering wheel sensor, could that be related to the speed sensor?I somehow doubt it as rear wheels nothing to do with steering. I have Mk3.5 Focus 2.5tdci.

thanks

yes

the steering angle sensor is all part of the same safety stuff - ABS came first, then ESP - basically an extra later part of more sophisticated ABS systems - ESP has been compulsory on all new stuff for a number of years...

it takes info from two extra bits ordinary ABS never needed - a YAW sensor (somewhere in the middle of the car at the back (like under the rear seats) to sense if the car is trying to become a spinning top - and a steering angle sensor, to understand what the idiot trying to crash is doing with the steering wheel....

assuming the driver is attempting to point the car where they really want it to go - the car takes the info of each wheel speed, the YAW of the car and the steering input and tries to dance on individual wheel's brakes and to play with the throttle in an attempt to make physics go away and the car go where it was told

If any part of the system it giving spurious or zero data the car has a melt down - rear wheel sensors die often on lots of vehicles - almost as if they designed in a little trick for a nice diagnostics and repair bill for a 20 min job even the apprentice from McDonald’s could get right
