Rear box hanger rusted off - substitute bracket?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Rear box hanger rusted off the box at the weld point (photos Backbox hanger 1-7).  Now, fortunately the box itself looks in good nick and I’m not one to be throwing the baby out with the bathwater.  So, I thought, I wonder if there’s an off the peg botch bracket for that?

I did a search, Google, Youtube etc, and it turns out there is, but sadly not for the Fiesta as far as I can see.  It seems the Citroen c3 and Pug 208 have a replacement bracket that I think I can persuade to fit as their back boxes have similar dimensions to the fiesta and the hanger arrives at kinda the same place relative to the strap.  I don’t suppose anyone knows of a bracket that’s made for the Fiesta MK6 back box do they?

If not, I’ll have to bring the Gallic one round to my way of thinking with the vice and Manchester screwdriver to make it fit.  I'd rather not be faffed with doing that though.

Also attached are photos of the C3 bracket and on of Pug 208 for reference.CitC3replacementbracket1.thumb.png.003e636b4c4bfd464c33da8c5fdaf2a5.pngCitC3replacementbracket2.thumb.png.031253cd1266b9d6bd711fc1e91920eb.pngCitC3replacementbracket1.thumb.png.003e636b4c4bfd464c33da8c5fdaf2a5.pngBackboxhanger2.thumb.jpg.baf6191459eb0d1f62a21bca96c7dae5.jpgBackboxhanger2.thumb.jpg.baf6191459eb0d1f62a21bca96c7dae5.jpg

weld it back on

hers did this 7 years ago still going now

the front CAT bracket just fell off last week and that's now back on

they designed them wrong - loads of the brackets remain nicely attached to the exhaust giving plenty of material to reattach it to - even for morons that can't weld

Agree with Botus, surely it's least hassle and a better fix just to ask an exhaust garage to weld it back on.  Can't imagine they'd charge more than £20 to do it?

Cheers guys.  I did consider welding, but wasn't sure if there would be enough meat on the box around where it needs to be welded.  Just didn't fancy a ham fisted guy putting a hole in it in the process.  Given your comments, the box is in fair condition, so reckon that's what I'll do now.
