Fuel Pump Priming But Engine Not Starting

Featured Replies

I have a 2008 Ford Focus. 2.0 liter. I am having an issue with the ignition. When I turn the key to the start position, the fuel pump primes and electrical components go off to start the engine, but most of the time the engine does not turn over. If I keep doing it, eventually it will turn over but, lately, it has taken 15 or 20 turns of the key before it does it. Each time, the fuel pump primes. The battery is on a full charge. I have taken to not turning the car off if I'm going to be away from it for under 15 minutes. I'm afraid that it won't start again. Thoughts?

From your description, the first thing I would suspect is the starter motor.

When you turn the key to the start position, can you hear a clicking noise from the starter?

If not, then you need to check the solenoid wire at the starter for power when the key is turned to the start position. If there is power coming to the solenoid wire, then it's likely the starter is faulty. If there is no power getting there, then more investigation will be needed.
