Software updates are made to fix glitches or errors that only become apparent after real world use.  Same as for a laptop or smartphone, etc.

I don't know whether that particular software number is the original or the updated version.  Forscan tells you the original, so you can compare it with the current, to see if it's ever been updated or not.

I got the launch machine

The garage has been messing me about

I've got a inspection next week on it as there's something not right with it And it was in for a recol in September for the power train module

A recall on the PCM would almost certainly just be a software update.

The launch machine won't have the function to check the original software number.  Needs to be Forscan or a Ford dealer.

For electrical modules there are several part numbers that apply to the parts within the engineering/manufacturing world.

There is the part number for the physical module fitted on the assembly line - JX7A-12A260-ZA in this case. This would be the part number on the label for the PCM.

Then there is software which is loaded in at the factory and is more specific to the spec/model of each different car - I’m thinking this will be the JX71-14C204-ACE.

The combination of the hardware part and the loaded in software then gives the final assembly part number, which only exists once the car is actually on the production line - JX71-12A260-ACE in this case.

So any software update would flash in a new version of the 14C204 part.

Slightly different in cases where the supplier adds in software before the module ships to the factory but the number of different versions needed for PCM means it’s easier to control the logistics complexity in the factory.

Do u think that's been done or just been fobbed off

I've got a inspection on Wed and feel the stuff to the car hasn't been done

The cars lossing traction in the wet again and had two new tyres and this update

It's came up with a abs fault could that cause the car to loss traction

The list of part numbers they’ve given you doesn’t mean much without any understanding of what the latest software level is or if there have been any service fixes for drivability issues etc.

However if there is an ABS issue that could well contribute to losing grip etc as that system can carry out the initial processing of the wheel speed sensor data plus operates the traction control system. I’m not 100% sure on that for the mk3 but know it’s the case on mk2 and 2.5

There's just something not right My neighbour had got the same car model up and his car sticks to the road and mines doesn't

I've got a independent inspection on Wed and maybe shed some light on it

If not I need to get a vat registered garage to take it a.test drive in the wet and I've to send that away

So you need to sit back, wait, and see what is said after the independent inspection.
