Weird reverse light issue with my Ford Focus MK3

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone has had this issue before and can possibly shed some light…I only noticed this issue a few days ago but it seems when the car is in reverse (manual 6 speed), the reverse lights and sensors come on as expected but if I bring the clutch up so the vehicle moves, the lights and sensors turn themselves off until the clutch is pushed in again 🤔

Not sure if it’s a related issue or could be the cause but before this I have noticed my driverside DRL light comes on when I unlock the car then straight off again and won’t turn on with the lights on when it rains so not sure if that’s effected anything or if it’s just water somehow seeping in getting on the connections 🤷🏻‍♂️

My Ford is a Ford Focus 2011 MK3 Titanium X 2.0L

Thank you,

Jack

Possible water ingress to the BCM

Possible water ingress to the BCM

I have tried the reverse issue whilst it’s raining vs when it’s been sunny for a few days (in theory giving it time to dry out) and it’s the same unfortunately 😕

is there anything I should look for in particular when investigating the BCM? The reverse issue does sound something modular as I can hear the clicks of it engaging lights and sensors then clicking off again constantly:/

thank you, jack

If the BCM is/has suffered from water ingress the circuit board tracks will have corroded and some of the micro processors will have also been damaged.

You need to disconnect the battery and then fully unplug the BCM to be able to inspect it. Water damage is sometimes not easy to spot.
