Rear washer not getting any fluid

Featured Replies

Hi, the rear washer stopped working about a year ago, the front washers are working fine.

Ford quoted me £160 to fix this - so I've lived with it for now.

But - it's about time I got it fixed.  I'm not mechanically minded (software developer) so any good pointers would be appreciated.  When I put the rear washer on there is a smell of fluid in the car - not sure whether it's the car or the boot.

Any suggestions on fault finding?

We all have our cross to bear 🤣

The fault will almost certainly be with the little one way in-line valve. It is usually fitted in the head lining about 300mm from the rear edge of the tailgate.

They become blocked, or the pipe comes off as it's only a push fit.

Yes! (until AI takes over the world XD)

I took a pic of the inside of the tailgate - not sure where the in-line valve sits..  This might take a while 🙂

You need to remove the rubber seal (just pulls off). Then pull down the head lining and reach in and find the screen wash pipe. On most cars of tis type you should find the non-return valve about 300mm from the back edge of the tailgate.

So I had another look into this today.  I worked out that the leak is coming from the rear pillar (drivers side).  I'm not sure how to get access though - from the rear I can see the pipes going down into the pillar, and they look OK from there.  How would I get access to them in the pillar?
