Electrical pinout spec

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I'll try to keep it short

For better or worse I'm installing one of those full width bonnet DRL lights, I'm looking to connect the positive wire to one of the pins of the headlight loom connector specifically the DRL lights as the voltage (and brightness) will vary depending if the low beams are on or not

It's a 2015 focus with adaptive zenon headlamps, Therefore it also has LED DRLs from factory.

I've seen a few diagrams about but can't find a MK3 focus seemingly, but the ones I've seen also never mention running lights or DRL, they tend to mention side markers? Is this ford tech lingo for the DRLs? Or would that be parking light as they are typically what is used for parking lights also

I know theoretically I could get in there and probe with a multimeter but a pinout diagram would be easier if anyone knows? Oh and any advice on the wording would be brilliant, thanks guys

Side markers is American for what we British used to refer to as 'Side Lights'

Since the change in the UK law that basically says if you need to have lights on because of poor visibility or night conditions you must use 'dipped beam', the use of side lights only for driving is no longer permitted. This has seen a change in the terminology and side lights are now referred to as 'Parking Lights' the name kind of tells you when you can use them 👍

Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) are separate to 'Side Lights' 'Parking Lights' or 'Side Markers' and their operation and use is governed by the DRL vehicle regulations.

Thanks for the info but this leaves me more confused. So front parking lights on the 3.5 are the DRLs on a lower brightness, would that mean the pinout on the diagrams for the DRLs would be labelled as parking lights?

If you know where I can find the pinout spec for this car that would be great. As I say I know I can stick a multimeter in there and do a bit of trial and error but would rather not mess too much with the wiring loom as I know the adaptive steering lights can have issues with the wiring and someone has also broken the securing clip for the connector to the headlight unit prior to my ownership so fettling with it alot plugging and unplugging it isn't ideal
