Focus coolant loss

Featured Replies

Hello,

My wife has got the 1.0 ecoboost Focus, 2014.  We've noticed the following symptoms:

- white smoke coming from where the turbo is.  Noticeably coming from under the bonnet whilst driving.  This has happened on only two occasions.  The first occasion the coolant level was still on the max. Both after the journey, and after it'd cooled down.  The smoking, whilst weren't visibly coming into the cabin had a burning smell and caused the eyes to burn badly.

- the second time the smoking happened however, coolant was just about empty in the expansion vessel

- topped up to MAX.  Drove it carefully home, approx 7miles Inc 70mph A road.  The coolant is again below the minimum, but not quite empty.  No smoking on the way home, but did have the burning smell (no eye burning)

- no engine codes

- car drives normal and otherwise as if no issues with it

- cambelt was done approx 12months a go, along with full service.  Cat was replaced. Lambda sensor replaced.  79k miles, full history.

Any ideas what it's likely to be?  Could it be the dreaded cooling channels that have burst into the cylinder?

Oh I forgot to add, we've definitely got oil dilution as the oil smells like petrol. Not noticed much of an increase up the dipstick like we did last year.

Oil is at the max.  But stinks of petrol
