Ford focus boot leak

Featured Replies

My son recently bought a 2014 Ford Focus  1.6TDI zetec. Upon opening the boot it was found to be wet inside around the cavity where the spare wheel is I have been told it is a fault with these cars. How can it be sorted. Is it a big job or is it just the black plastic plugs being worn that is letting the water in.

It's usually the vents hidden behind the bumper.  Just need to remove the bumper, remove & re-seal the vents, then refit the bumper.

If the water ingress continues afterwards then there are a few other leak points on these, but that's the best place to start.

Thank you. My mechanic looked under  the rear wheel arches and took out the plugs and the water came out. He has kept them out saying that should stop it filling again. Is this correct

I've tested your mechanics theory. I left the plug out of the bath and it did stop it filling up 🤣

I'm in the same position. I too removed the rubber bungs to stop the water from refilling until get a chance to look at it. I plan to seal the vents behind bumper and any of the sealing points around the boot and roof area that have been mentioned in many threads on here. please do keep us posted on the progress.

Yes, but that's not a fix.  Need to stop the water getting in there in the first place.

Just wondering, what's an acronym for Fix Often Replace Daily?

So how do you do that then ?

By removing the bumper, removing & re-sealing the vents, then refitting the bumper.

.....and when it's all done, remember to put the plugs back in so the bath can fill back up 🤣
