Ecoboost 1.0 Hot Start Issue

Featured Replies

Good Morning,

Starting to pull my hair out with this car. So much so I’ve created an account just to see if anyone can shed some light on the issue.

I’ve just had the wet belt replaced on my car, through a garage with an impeccable reputation for doing them and I’ve received the vehicle back with an issue.

The car starts fine when cold, drives as it should but soon as it gets a bit warm it doesn’t start, cranks but doesn’t kick into life unless I apply the throttle at the same time.

After doing it a few times I’ve managed to pull a code using an Autel which says ‘low fuel pressure’

The garage have stripped again and checked the timing and are adamant it’s been done correctly, quoting ‘we’ve done hundreds of these and never had an issue like this’.

If I leave the car to cool down it’ll start again under its own power no problem. There are no crank sensor codes, no rough running once started. Purely just a no-start when warm unless throttle’s applied.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Only suggestion I can give is change the low fuel pressure sensor and make sure the spark plugs are new and the correct spec

Can you be more specific? There are low and high pressure fuel circuits so narrowing this down could help pinpoint where the issue might be.

Also make sure it is a current (live) code and not one that occurred back when the engine was started following the rebuild. A low fuel pressure reading will always occur then given that the pump and fuel rail are removed hence become full of air.

If your Code Reader can show Live Data then check that the RPM is showing while Cranking and not starting even if there are no Codes for the Crank Sensor, the Fuel Pressure Code may be a red herring.
