Focus 2020 titanium 1.0 alarm backup siren

Featured Replies

Hi, my alarm has started going off. It is not the loud hooter horn alarm but more like a softer electronic siren type. It goes off exactly after 10 minutes from being set with the key fob.  It can be silenced ok and alarm disabled with the fob. The normal (loud horn) alarm works - I sat in the car, enabled the alarm then started moving. The alarm was loud and not like the ‘siren’.

Looking at Mr Google, it appears either a genuine fault with the separate backup unit or its own battery getting low…

any help/confirmation or otherwise much appreciated.

Do you mean that 'you' started to move around inside the car, Or that you started to drive the car ?

Just ‘jumped up and down a bit’, ignition wasn’t on

You get that not very loud sound when you open the door with the key instead of the Fob, the door lock could be faulty.

If you get set up with FORScan it should tell you what the cause of the last 4 or 6, I can't remember exactly,  Alarm events were.

Many thanks, presumably it’s a visit to Fords so they can do their FORScan…

anyone know where this ‘backup’ unit is hiding in the car and if its own battery is accessible?

You can buy an Adaptor and either download or buy the phone version of FORScan and check yourself, Ford have their dealer only system.

Alarm sounder module is in the inner front wing on the passenger side. Most likely covered by a black bin bag full of expanding foam, this is a genuine 'Ford' thing and the way the car left the factory.

I've never needed to try and replace the battery in the alarm module, but I have heard it is nearly impossible to get open and to access the battery.

My 2017 Volvo did this after 6 years, and the Alarm Sender is actually a Ford Unit. Again, some say its hard to crack it open and replace the battery and reseal it again.. Mazda and Aston Martin also use a similar unit, but they are all slightly different part numbers. I would suggest you get the right unit for your VIN.

I replaced the unit and the Alarm stopped going off at random times. I suspected the battery went bad and potentially leaked damaging the circuit board.
